The purpose of a resume is to tell employers about your skills, experiences and accomplishments. This is very important when entering the work force. In a high school resume you should include: Name and contact information, a summary, work experience (if any), volunteer and extracurricular activities, education, and skills.
When writing a resume, you will need to not only use active language but you’ll need to write short summaries about each item listed above. Active language is language that catches the reader’s attention by using words such as “Developed, Managed, and Programmed”. Be sure that the spelling is correct, and don’t forget to highlight your skills and describe your education. For students that are struggling with writing a resume they can use the following templates.
It’s crucial that you proofread your resume because employers are looking at whether you fit their requirements or not. I would ask a parent, teacher or a mentor to review the resume and make sure that it is perfect before sending it out to any jobs. An important part in having a resume is to update it. This is so you can add anything new or take anything out that is not current. If you do not update accurate information you can get in trouble by the employer and they can take away your existing job or take away the job offer. So make sure you update your resumes!
